"Music in the Mountains"
SECOND BIENNIAL SUMMER FESTIVAL
JUNE 18-21, 2020
Wonderful Western Maryland plays host to early music lovers from far and wide for 4 days of sublime entertainment!
This year’s Summer Festival covers music from Medieval through Mozart. Highlighting the 4-day extravaganza are the Mediterranean-focused Alba Consort, the inventive New York string ensemble ACRONYM, and the Fortepiano Trio.

In addition, Mountainside Baroque presents two special concerts. One reenacts a 17th century vespers service from the famed Basilica of San Marco in Venice. The other, titled “The Heavens Laugh: Festive Bach,” boasts a performance of some of J. S. Bach’s most famous choral and instrumental works. Musical guests of the festival—voices, strings, brass, percussion—will join MBQ for this grand finale.
The festival dovetails naturally with the Allegany Arts Council’s 11th Annual Mountain Maryland Plein Air Competition. The two organizations have joined forces to promote the weeklong slate of activities under the banner, MountainAire: Brush Strokes & Baroque.
In its inaugural year in 2018, the four-day festival attracted over 200 attendees from seven states with musical variety, talks, historical tours, and “pop-up” concerts at historical venues in Cumberland.
