10th Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols for Christmas

Sunday, December 17, 2023 | 5:00 p.m.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church

16 Washington Street, Cumberland, MD

Mountainside Baroque’s 2023-2024 season, “Seasonal Delights,” will continue on Sunday, December 17, at 5pm, with its 10th annual “Festival of Lessons and Carols.” As in previous years, this ecumenical event will take place at the historic Emmanuel Episcopal Parish at 16 Washington Street in Cumberland, Maryland.

The Scholars of St. Cecilia, Mountainside Baroque’s resident chamber choir, has rung in the Christmas season since 2013 with a celebration that encompasses six centuries of Christmas music, including traditional carols, along with readings by local clergy and officials. Mountainside Co-Artistic Directors Ryan Mullaney and Lyle Nordstrom lead The Scholars.

Included this year is special additional music that reflects Mountainside Baroque’s core repertory–Heinrich Schütz’s charming depiction of the Christmas story, as well as a prelude featuring instrumental Nöels for Baroque violins, recorders, organ, and viola da gamba.

Please join the performers for the cookies and punch reception in the church parish hall afterwards!

The event is free and all are welcome. A free-will offering will be welcomed.
